Back on the Bike
Today I finally did something that was a little bit like a normal routine. I am at week 4 after surgery on my right shoulder and to say it has been challenging is an understatement! Going into the surgery I had no idea the extent of the damage in the shoulder, the extent of the surgery and mostly the extent of the darn recovery process! This week I am finally able to use my right hand for some things and it's like Christmas! Who knew being able to fold laundry would be a relief?
Getting back to exercising has also had its challenges. I have been walking and recently been on the Arc Trainer or Elliptical machine. Don't tell my doctor because he was a little afraid I might lose my balance and use my right arm in the process. I wear the attractive blue sling in the gym to keep me from forgetting and using my arm in any way. I've also progressed to a few squats, lower body work and weights in my left arm. It's been baby steps. However, I am really thankful I can do this - it would be so much worse if I was on crutches!
Today I ventured on the bike for the first Spin class in a while. It was so nice to be incognito in a dark room and just sweat to some great music. The ups and down on the bike were a little wobbly at first but since I could only use my left arm it forced me to focus on using my core - something I should have done all along! Thanks Jennifer for a good workout! A really good thing for mind, body and soul I say.
I had a healthy post workout lunch before a jam packed afternoon. Kale Salad with garbonzo beans, slices of fresh tomato and hummus.

Some bloggers post what they are Thankful for on Thursdays. I think it's so important to constantly remind ourselves of all the wonderful things we have to be thankful for each day. Sometimes it is only the little things, but oftentimes those count the most. In keeping with that Thursday agenda, I am so thankful for the fabulous friends I have surrounding me, from both near and far.
Happy Thursday!
What makes you thankful today? Ever recovered from an injury you thought would be nothing and turned out to be more? Getting into a Fall/school schedule yet?
