A New Flavor for Fall and Health Benefits of Cinnamon
I have to admit that I love my coffee in the mornings. There's just something about that first cup in the morning before everyone else gets up. I love the ritual, the smell and the taste. I have to admit that I can't drink it black. I like a splash of half and half to make it the color of caramel. Perfection. I have tried to kick the half and half and substitute it with skim milk, plain milk, almond milk, soy milk and coconut milk. I always go back to the half and half.
I have also tried artificial creamers but can't stomach the fact that I can't pronounce the names of the ingredients, so I go back to my half and half. It may not the be very best option but at least I know what I'm drinking in my coffee!
With a little touch of Fall in the air I am even happier with my morning coffee!
I love the feel of Fall and the new flavors that we begin to use this time of year. Recently, I was sent a Limited Edition bottle of Natural Bliss Cinnamon Cream coffee creamer from Coffee-mate to try. Of course, I couldn't turn that down! It has replaced the splash of half and half in my normal morning cup. There's just a hint of cinnamon that adds a little something special to the regular morning ritual. The cinnamon reminds me of my kitchen growing up. This time of year my mom would keep a little pot of cinnamon simmering on the stove for that cinnamon smell so it makes me feel like Fall is in the air. (She was very "Martha Stewartish" before there was Martha Stewart)
And, if you are wondering, you can pronounce all of the ingredients! Here they are: nonfat milk, heavy cream, sugar. That's it. One Tablespoon has 35 calories, 1.5 grams of fat and 5 grams of sugar. Not bad for a little treat in the mornings.
I know there are some folks who put a little dash of cinnamon in their coffee for the taste and for the health benefits. I've known this but hadn't given it much thought recently. So, I thought I'd share some of the cool health benefits of cinnamon. You know how I love a list . . . so, here goes:
10 Reasons to Love Cinnamon:
1. Numerous studies show that cinnamon regulates blood sugar, making it a great choice for diabetics and hypoglycemics alike. That’s also great news for anyone who wants stable energy levels and moods.
2. It reduces LDL cholesterol levels. LDL is also known as the harmful cholesterol. Reducing it may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
3. It has natural anti-infectious compounds. In studies, cinnamon has been effective against ulcer-causing H. pylori bacteria and other pathogens.
4. It reduces pain linked to arthritis. Cinnamon has been shown in studies at the Department of Internal Medicine, Kangnam Korean Hospital, to reduce cytokines linked to arthritic pain.
5. Research at the University of Texas, published in the journal Nutrition and Cancer, shows that cinnamon may reduce the proliferation of cancer cells, holding promise for cancer prevention and sufferers of the disease.
6. It is a natural food preservative.
7. It contains fiber, calcium, iron, and manganese—albeit small amounts to the typical dose of ground cinnamon.
8. It’s been proven effective for menstrual pain and
9. infertility. Cinnamon contains a natural chemical called cinnamaldehyde, which studies show increases the hormone progesterone and decreases testosterone production in women, helping to balance hormones.
10. Cinnamon holds promise for various neurodegenerative diseases, including: Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, brain tumor, and meningitis, according to research at the Cytokine Research Laboratory, Department of Experimental Therapeutics, The University of Texas. Their research shows that cinnamon reduces chronic inflammation linked with these neurological disorders.

How do you like your coffee? Are you a coffee lover or hater?
This is not a sponsored post. While I was sent a bottle of natural bliss to try I was not compensated and the opinions are my own.
