A Birthday and a Sugar Bash . . .
How true is this? The timing of this reminder is perfect for me as I was coming to the end of my 21 Day Sugar Detox. In fact, I only had 3 days to go. Then I was presented with this . . .
Yep. It was my birthday. Not the "Big" one yet; whew. Since I live in a house full of boys I have learned to keep the bar really low as far as any expectations of celebrations. I have learned that there aren't any Norman Rockwell moments and "perfect" photo ops in this family. I was simply thrilled to get a text from the Second Son telling me not to make his bed or pick up in his room as he didn't want me to work on my birthday. That was a gift in itself.
Anyway, the family knows about my Sugar Detox so I was not expecting a birthday cake. I thought I was pretty safe. However, last year I will confess to being so disappointed when I didn't get anything sweet for the day. Not even a single m&m or strawberry. The Husband said he didn't think I would want or like anything sweet on my birthday. Really? Who is he married to? Even the boys know about my large and loud "sweet tooth". So, maybe they thought they better not make that same mistake this year. So, since they actually thought about me how could I turn this down? They were going to think I was really lame if I didn't have a little bite. How could I disappoint them? I had a wonderful slice of this white chocolate decadence and it was pure heaven on a fork. It made it feel like a birthday celebration!
What about the Sugar Detox? I decided to have my cake and jump back on the program the very next day. So, now I am doing a 22 Day Sugar Detox. I simply added another day and didn't spend too much time worrying about "breaking" my streak. It's life. Stuff happens. Whatever we plan and work for and expect doesn't always land right in our laps. We handle it and "rise" back up after the "fall". So, today is day 19 instead of day 20 for me. That works.
As far as that delicious cake, though, I enjoyed each bite but got a huge sugar headache afterwards! I wasn't expecting that so it showed me that it was something new to my system and my body's reaction to that "new" substance in my body. It was like a cool science experiment.
Here is one of my birthday cards. Sounds like the perfect workout doesn't it? I haven't given it a try yet . . . Ha!

On my birthday night I made a scrumptious salad. A friend shared with me her recipe for a Kale and Brussel Sprout Salad. Since it was my birthday I decided to make a salad I wanted. It was so yummy! I'm eating it now for lunch as I type! Stay tuned for the recipe . . .
So, how do you handle a "fall"? Get right back up? Or let it linger and bring you down? How do you celebrate your birthday? Big and all out or quiet and hoping it will just go away???
Have a GREAT weekend!
