Unintentionally Unplugged

Who knew it would be two whole weeks from my last post before I got to sit down here again?  When I left for a vacation at the beach I said I might write or update or I might take the week to unplug.  Weeeelllll, that decision was made for me!  I did pack up my laptop thinking I might have some down time and would share a beach workout, maybe something new I'd come across, summer reading or my sister-in-law's recipe for her delicious Peach Fuzz, perfect for sipping on the beach late afternoon . . . but we were unable to get the wireless running in our condo.  So,  I had a forced week of relaxation sitting on the beach reading, watching the waves pound my boys, doing very little cooking and absolutely loving having NO particular schedule, agenda or timeframe.  I highly recommend it!

As I mentioned in my last post, we didn't go on our traditional beach trip last year, and weren't even sure we would again.  Let me first say, thank you for the wonderful, supportive and beautiful comments to that post.  We began our vacation with a family celebration and tribute to Mike that was so perfect, peaceful and wonderful in all ways.
The rest of the week was a perfect week at the beach.  Great walks, runs, workouts on the beach to start the day, breezes during the day, beautiful weather, great waves, fun meals and time together.  I made it through a couple of good books, too.  Honestly, didn't miss the internet and I stopped receiving emails on my phone and, gasp, didn't miss those either!

Here's a little glance:

How can you not take advantage of this for a walk, run, yoga, sweat, alone time or whatever you need for the day?

A little July 4th humor . . . just a week late. . .

So, if you are still with me, we get home from a week away, a week unplugged,  and returned to realize . . . no internet at home.  So, no connection, no email, nothing.  It's one thing to be out of touch while on vacation but when you get back home that's another thing.  It took two trips by our internet provider to get things up and running . . . and still no email on my phone.  For at least another three days before I could get to my phone provider to reset everything.
During those days I could feel my stomach tightening up and that terrible anxious feeling overcoming me.  Was I missing something important?  A deadline?  A meeting? A reply to something that someone was expecting?  Of course, it wasn't my fault if I didn't answer an email, I had no service.  However, in this day and age, who believes that excuse?  Did folks think I was just ignoring them or being a total slacker?  It was making me crazy.  Here was this great piece of technology that was supposed to be making our lives easier, but was taking up the majority of my time during each day trying to get it fixed and figuring out my phone.

I found that all that peace from being unplugged while away was slowly ebbing away . . .

When we were finally "re-connected" I felt like I lost another entire day just playing catch up with deleting the trash, reading and responding to emails and calendaring more stuff.  Ugh.

That's okay though, I'm back in time to tell you about the last two days and the next which is FULL of lots of fitness certifications, classes and fun going on right here in Atlanta.  I'm pooped from the last two days of 9 hour courses, but it's also energizing in another way.

So, how do you feel about being unplugged?  Do you ever schedule time away from electronics?  How crazy does your cable provider make you?  What's on your agenda this weekend?  I'll be spending the night with a room full of girls at our church lying on a sleeping bag . . . bet you can't beat that for a relaxing Friday night!

Have a Fun weekend!
