Things I've Seen This Week . . .

It's a gray, Friday afternoon here.  The weather is not gearing up for a good weekend.  It seems like it will be an evening spent in front of a warm fire.  Sounds okay with me, except I'm in the market for a new book.  Finishing up the classic Tale of Two Cities so I could discuss with the Second Son.  Yes, I did read it in my past but that was WAAAYY in my past and I can't remember too much these days. . . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!I' m going to share a few things that have come my way this week.  The first will be some healthy hints from Dr. Oz's current magazine. These are what's called his Fridge List.  photo copy 4 1.  DR. OZ'S FRIDGE LIST:a.  Upgrade your water bottle.  He sways switch to a stainless steel water bottle.  Even BPA-free plastic water bottles may still release chemicals into your body.  Eeuuu.  I'll have to work on this one.  My beef with my stainless steel water bottles is that they are so darn heavy.  I guess heavy is better than poisons!b.  Stock Your First Aid Kit.  Dr. Oz reminds us to keep our kits ready, to check them every 3 months to keep stuff up to date and to include natural things like honey and aloe vera.  This is a good tip and something I wouldn't think to do.  The Husband would though.  He loves a First Aid Kit and is known to have them stashed just about anywhere and to give them out freely to the boys.  For someone who was never a boy scout, he is pretty darn prepared.c.  Do Some Pre-Spring Cleaning.  He says allergies hit women harder than men so we need to keep the windowsills, fans, A/C units clean from dust.  Gee thanks for another reminder to clean the house.d.  Re-Org Your Kitchen.  Dr. Oz says that when a kitchen is cluttered that people eat 44% more snacks.  Hmmmmm, I feel like I should get a gold star since I did my recent kitchen and pantry clean out and reorganization.e.  Have a Family Breakfast.  He says that since it is tough to corral everyone for dinner then maybe breakfast might be a better time to get together.  Apparantly, studies show that more Americans are eating breakfast at home than they did 10 years ago.  I think that's a good sign!  I do get up and make sure my boys are fed and I always eat something in the mornings.  I think it really is the best meal of the day.2.  A Posture Check or the Downfall of Our Obsession with Handheld Devicesphoto copy 5This is the cover of the current New Yorker and, no lie, this is something I worry about while I am lying awake at 3 am in the mornings!  In the classes I teach I've been talking about this VERY thing!  I'm really focused on having us work on those upper back muscles, squeezing the shoulder blades together and being aware of our postures so we are not living with rounded shoulders and hunchbacks.  And tell your children to do the same!  Hold your device up to eye level when reading!3.  This Happened Last Night.  My pups must have thought I was cooking up some delicious meaty dinner.  They had no idea this is what it really was!photo copy 3photo copy 24.  A Little Spring Break HumorSince so many of us are dreaming about warmer days, sun and a day at the beach, and since I made the mistake of doing a little bathing suit try ons, I think this is the perfect time for you to check out Scary Mommy and her take on the Victoria Secret Swimsuits Buying Guide!  Love it!5.  Neither Rain, Nor Snow, Nor Sleet Will Keep Us Away from Our Yoga Classphoto copyHow cute is my sweet friend getting ready for our Friday morning Yoga/Pilates class?  Just goes to show that it's never too cold or rainy for some Yoga! How's your weather out there?  How are you staying warm?  How are you getting in your workouts?  I'm on Day 3 of NO FACEBOOK for Lent . . .it's going well!  If you celebrate, how are you doing? Enjoy Your Weekend!Signature
