Do You Have a Lifestyle Vision?
Many, many people create vision boards. You may have read about that, seen that or even done one yourself. It is also a BIG thing folks do at the beginning of a new year. I confess I am not a vision board creator.
I can see how it might be fun and useful to put such a board right in a spot to motivate you of your goals or to as a reminder to keep on track. However, to be honest, the thought of cutting out pictures from magazines or “what not” to paste on a board reminds me of school projects. I also envision boards covered with pictures of beach houses, yachts, fancy cars and models in swimsuits looking ridiculously hot and chiseled. Again, to be honest, that is just not my style. That would not motivate me or speak to me in the least.
As you know, I am a big proponent of a healthy lifestyle. If you have spent any time here reading my posts, you know it is not at all about eating only salads and following a rigid workout regimen. What it IS about is creating a full, big life which balances all the good things and bringing those things into your every day - those things that nurture your whole wellbeing - your body, mind and soul.
I have always had a healthy lifestyle as my goal. These days I keep that goal and these days keep busy over here creating my own personal lifestyle vision. I know what that healthy lifestyle looks like for me. It is not a rigid, strict schedule. It may change with the day, week or season of life. But it is full of little, right, healthy choices that make me feel good, strong and joyful in my body, mind and heart. It is a consistent practice that includes an ongoing intent to balance the things that are important and to bring together the people, beliefs, goals and habits that, for me, fulfill what I hold as my vision of the life I want to create.
Think about that for a minute. What does that include for you? I’ve talked about this to some folks. I’ve gotten answers including freedom to travel, finding ways to carve out time for creativity, energy for playing with grandchildren, volunteering for passion projects, starting a new career in a second season, learning a new skill, and doing the “thing” you didn’t think you had time for during the busier seasons of life.
I get more specific with my own lifestyle vision. I see morning quiet time, walks with my dogs, reading in bed at the end of the night, prepping my “Big ‘Ol Salads” or pots of vegetable soups, weekends with girlfriends, laughs and hugs with my boys, quiet time in the mountains, lots of outdoor action, prayer, teaching fitness classes, days at work, delicious meals with friends, good conversation, volunteering with a special yoga, sweaty and challenging workouts, church, learning new things and seeing new places and a lot of laughing at myself for so many of the ridiculous (and stupid) things I do and think (on a daily basis).
I want a lot out of this life. I think God created this world for us to see and experience. I want to be healthy and strong and have the vitality to enjoy all of it. That is the lifestyle vision I have and practice to create.
What about you? What is your lifestyle vision?
Live Well!
