What's Your Season?
The Seasons have definitely begun to change where I am. There is a wonderful crispness in the air, clear blue skies and the leaves are beginning to fall. The change makes me think about the different seasons, how folks relate to them and find their favorite. This time of year, Fall, was always a pretty special time of year growing up. It meant spending most weekends, time off and Holidays in a wonderful old hunting cabin in the middle of the woods with my family and close friends. I was wearing camo when it just wasn't cool to wear camo. There was no Duck Dynasty, remember? There was no female camoflauge for a pretween out there so I was mostly in hand me downs, Salvation Army finds and duck boots from LLBean. I would share pictures, but it's really pretty embarrassing. The Fall was all about hunting, being in the woods, oyster roasts, making fires, and beginning food prep for the Holidays. It was also a lot of forced family fun. While I'm actually a Spring time lover, the Fall makes me think of lots of fun times. It also makes me think of my brother who loved this time of year more than anything. His perfect day was rising at 5 am, putting on a pair of Carharts, (sometimes rousting boys out of bed to hunt), riding in the woods, and, of course, sipping on a little bourbon. Life was good. So as the leaves begin to fall I think of all of wonderful things that this time of year brings. In my own home, Fall gets the vote for favorite season from my boys and The Husband. I think they see it as cooler weather, football, Friday night lights and more football. What more could they want? You know how I love a list so here are some of my likes, dislikes and others shared by some of you:THE GOOD:Cool weatherOutdoor and Indoor firesTime change so there's light in the morning - a particular favorite of mine!Fresh ApplesPumpkin everythingStarbucks Pumpkin LatteHalloween CandyPumpkin CarvingPlanning Thanksgiving MealsChilis and SoupsPiesJeans and BootsCool Outdoor WorkoutsHalloween CostumesSmell of Burning LeavesTHE BAD:Raking LeavesCold WeatherShort, Dark DaysCold Outdoor WorkoutsBusyness of the HolidaysExamsIt looks as if THE GOOD outweighs THE BAD. Maybe that is true with any new Season as maybe it's just that we all get ready for a change. I love that each new phase of the year will bring on new attitudes, habits, eats and activities. They also bring on new sets of memories, whether good or bittersweet. What about you? What's your favorite Season? Why? What more needs added to the list?Have a Wonderful Weekend!
