Getting out of the zone . . . the comfort zone
I had a completely different post planned for today - being Monday and all, I try to be a little motivational and fresh to begin the week. However, I did a couple of things today that were really a wee bit out of my comfort zone. This was really good for a new week and I'm hoping might give you an idea to do something a bit out of the ordinary or give something just a little stretch beyond your norm.
As I was leaving my normal Monday Interval class a friend of mine talked me into staying for Zumba. Let me say I am a huge advocate for a Zumba class - let's say I advocate but don't attend. I think it looks like so much fun and I love the idea of a workout being so much fun that it's not really a workout, but really . . . it's just not me. Or, to be honest, I'm just chicken. It's a class like none other that I teach or attend. I don't know the steps, footwork, cues or moves. And, again, to be honest, I don't move like that! But, you know what? It didn't matter one bit. The instuctor was amazing. She is 54 years old and when I say she's got moves - I didn't move like that in my teens! Her energy was completely contagious and fun! The room was packed with every age, shape and form and even included a couple of males. I got completely out of my comfort zone, had a great time and am so glad to find something new! (Thanks Margaret!) If you have never tried Zumba, are curious or want to know more, check out the official website here.
On another note I have a fun little workout we did in a couple of my classes today that also help get us out of our comfort zones. Sometimes I know we just "mail in" our workouts, lift our same old weights, log the same 4 miles on the treadmill or zone out during that spin class. Sometimes it just takes a little extra effort, a little burst to get you motivated and out of the comfort zone.
Try this little Pyramid Squat Workout to break out. It's short, sweet and sweaty.

Anything new planned this week? What will you do to get out of your comfort zone? Ever tried Zumba?
Here's to a great week!
