Don't Let those Pumpkin Lattes Get You!
I can see it happening already. It begins now around September. It seems to get earlier and earlier each year. I say September because that's when the Halloween decorations start popping up in stores AND when everyone decides that all sorts of foods and drinks simply must be pumpkin flavored. I see the feeding frenzy begin about the time the pumpkin lattes hit Starbucks and all the other coffee places. This is the feeding frenzy or the holiday mentality that takes hold of us and sweeps us up on its tide for the next three months. Somehow we begin to lose all track of normal eating and begin allowing what should be special or weekly treats slip into our routines as if they simply should be there. As if we are entitled to enjoy those extra sugary drinks, calorie bombs, extra cocktails and artery-clogging processed baked goods just because the holidays are "right around the corner". And since the holidays are "right around the corner" that means we can consume and enjoy and forget all sense of what is healthy and will actually make us feel good because we can start all over come January 1.Come on ya'll! Don't fall into this trap this year! Just because every single item on a menu - and some that have absolutely no business - happens to be laced with a pumpkin or spice flavor, doesn't mean you have to be lead astray! You are better than that. You are too smart to allow the pumpkin lattes to start you on an unhealthy downward spiral! You've heard this saying lately, I'll bet. I even jumped on the bandwagon and posted it on my InstaStories.
Imagine where you could be by January 2019. Now do the work.
This can be a powerful tool. Think about it. Imagine it. See it in your mind. The most important part, though, is the doing. You can get there. You can begin January feeling awesome, energized, healthy, strong. Doesn't that sound so much better than starting behind the eight ball, run-down, tired, bloated, pants too tight and regretting the excess and the "too much" from the past three months?I'm here to poke you a little, to nag you, to be that little voice on your shoulder, to not let that pumpkin latte, that candy corn, those weekly football game foods start you on an early holiday slide. And don't put words in my mouth either by taking this as my shaming you or telling you NOT to have a treat, enjoy a coffee or a ballgame. You know I'm all about celebrating and having a treat. It's just that they are called treats for a reason! They aren't exactly treats if we have them on a regular and routine basis, right? So, enjoy the Fall and the new tastes and foods and drinks of this Season. Let's be smart about it, though. You do not have to have that extra special pumpkin whipped frothy sugar loaded dessert that is masked by the word coffee. Every. Single. Time. you grab a coffee. Let's ease into this Fall and into Thanksgiving and into the Christmas season the way they were intended. Take your time, savor the seasons with the different offerings but don't get caught up in the feeding frenzy and the whole "I'll start over in January" thing. Let's start now so that when January 2019 comes, it's simply another month and you can jump right in feeling your best. You'll thank yourself I promise!
